Sadly, the trio we've come to know and love for the past decade will probably stay together like the best of friends and leave BBC as one. However, while we enter the official mourning stage for the old Top Gear, my mind started clicking off thoughts for a revival. Younger hosts who aren't afraid to bang doors and/or heads, more entry-level fun-car reviews and shenanigans, and a genuine attitude to reviewing cars without media BS (if it sucks at what it's supposed to do, then it sucks...but does it suck while hooning)? Surely there's still room for improvement on the old TG formula and, with YouTube connecting every household computer together, there are now several internet-based car-related channels (Roadkill, RCR, /Drive, Petrolicious etc) that have gained considerable popularity for their own unique style of car shenanigans and reviews.
So, Oppo, how would you try to restart TG fresh without reusing our favorite old hosts?

Sure - it's a formula that works. Even the pre-Clarkson shows are completely watchable today. If Andy Wilman stays, the show will continue to be excellent.
Pissed off tonight - flipped on BBC-A, no Top Gear. Then I remembered it was Tuesday.
Any word on when we'll get the remaining (three?) shows.

I wanted to start my own YouTube-based show this summer...

I'd just get new hosts to be honest.
My first choices would be:
Chris Evans
Dom Joly
Idris Elba

I have no idea where you are but if we were local I would be so in.

I would let it die, honestly. Yes it's sad, but all good shows have to come to an end, and Top Gear had a great run. There will be other shows, with fun shenanigans, and fresh faces.

Hmm... I'd hire Vicki Butler-Henderson, I KNOW that's rather controversial but I rather like her. I'd probably ask Fredric Aasbø as well. The third guy, hmm.. Amy MacDonald.

Capt America Evans or the BBC2 radio presenter?
(...Guessing the latter.)

If you can come to Michigan, by all means. All I have is iPhone Cameras, a few good driving roads, a YouTube channel, and what video editing skills I've got.

Yup.
Rather tragically when I put Chris Evans (BBC) into Google image search it wasn't until page 7 he appeared.

Nice, MacDonald for the wild card! Aasbø would be fun to watch given his talent at car control and sense of Scandinavian humor...and the UK vs US TG showdowns would be so awesome with two FD drivers going at it! Vicki would be a nice breath of fresh air, besides controversy is all part of BBC's staff.

Top Gear's formula and many years together is what made it what it is.
After seeing all these new episodes it's hard to watch the budding chemistry between the 3.
Top Gear shouldn't be brought back. It should be back in a different format. It's hard to believe that they'll make something else. More than likely, BBC will make the same show with new hosts. It'll suck and TG will die.
Just let it die, give them a few years and they'll be back.

I REALLY like Amy :P She's funny and quirky. Aasbø is just insane, Vicki would be the older one trying to keep the others in place :P I guess the main problem would be language, most people will understand Vicki.. but Amy or Fredric?

Depends. I wanted to do a YT channel that focused on cheap car challenges, if I found some sponsors to pay for the cars & rent locations and shit as well as two other presenters I'd be set.
If I finally get my pretty ass up and get my license that is.

A rehash with Martin Brundle, Sabine Schmitz, Steve Coogan. Hopefully retaining none of the contrived 'lads banter' dynamic.

Chris Harris
Guy Martin
Colin Clark/Chris Evans/Mikko Hirvonen. Actually definitely Mikko Hirvonen. Dude loves his shenanigans.

Oooh. Idris is a good pick. Might be too busy for the job, but definitely a good pick.

I'm an old guy that loves cars,is sort of an asshole has a bit of an accent and can't fix a damn thing. That make me qualified to be on your show.

I heard that he is busy campaigning to be the new James bond....which would be AWESOME!

Yes, take Clarkson, Hammond and May, put them on Channel 4, replace the Stig by the Stog and you're good to go :)
I'm sure it would be better than the BBC :)

If they finally actually picked Idris to be Bond he would instantly be my new favorite.

Doubtful. Clarkson we can live without, but not all three.
I think they should keep Hammond and May and get a new guy to kick around, like maybe Tanner Faust.

Craig has two more movies in his contract - SPECTRE and one more. I think the Broccoli machine will conclude that Elba is too old that point, because they'll want him to sign for at least three films. As much as I'd like to see him as Bond, I don't think it will happen. He's 43 now, so he'd be close to 50 by the time he took over.

Best answer.

Short answer is no. Longer answer is maybe but highly unlikely. Ultimately it's because all three hosts are inherently opinionated and somewhat confrontational. Hell, even James who got his job for making secret messages in Autocar magazines. Unless the BBC can find three intelligent hooligans to replace them who also have chemistry it's a fools errand.
